What Otter.ai does
Otter.ai is a transcription service built around audio capture. You join a meeting, record a conversation, or upload an audio file, and Otter processes it — producing a searchable transcript, speaker labels, and an AI-generated summary you can review afterward.
That workflow makes Otter genuinely useful if your job involves a lot of meetings you need to document. It connects to Zoom, Google Meet, and other conferencing tools and can join calls automatically to take notes on your behalf.
But Otter.ai is not a dictation tool. It does not put text into your documents as you speak. It doesn't know what app you're working in. If you want to write an email, draft a document, or reply to a Slack thread by voice — Otter has no mechanism for that. It records; it doesn't type.
